Parks battles to the Athens quarterfinals

Alycia Parks put together back to back wins at the Hellenic Championship in Athens, opening with a 7-6(3) 6-4 victory over Valentini Grammatikopoulou before digging out a 6-7(4) 6-2 7-5 win against Mai Hontama that swung on nerve as much as power.
The run ended in the quarterfinals against fourth seed Maria Sakkari, who had the home crowd behind her and closed it out 6-4 6-3. The scoreline does not tell the whole story: Parks had already beaten Sakkari once in her career, in the 2022 Ostrava run that announced her, and for a set and a half in Athens the rematch was live.
The week mattered beyond the results. It was her deepest run of the summer, a reminder that the first strike game travels, and her deepest run of the European summer.
